I think the female boxing world is a really interesting realm to play in. It inherently contradicts our idea of women. Women are expected to be fragile and soft but you have to have an edge to willingly take a punch to the face. Even more so we are always surprised by a woman who is criminal. It's always in self defense or revenge. We never expect a crime to be committed by a woman using physical force. Women don't beat people to death.
That being said, we write off women who do fit into these categories, they are butch and we no longer consider them women. So outside of Maria the boxer I want to explore her as a person and subsequently as a woman.
The world of athletics is another thing that is really interesting, I was an all-state track runner for up until I went to college and I trained constantly. Discipline is a cornerstone idea of being great and coaches always talk about that. There is an unidentifiable urge to win which only is heightened at higher levels of play. Nothing made me more nervous than racing because I had to be great (It's hard to believe now I know.) there's something to being the best that creates a level of "any means necessary" that's not always a safe place. Let's just see where this goes.
